Projects supported by the Narooma Lions Club Over the past twelve months, Narooma Lions Club has provided much-needed support to several other organisations providing vital services in our community.
Support to rural fire services We have provided funds to the rural fire services of Central Tilba, Narooma and Dalmeny so those organisations could purchase essential equipment that, in turn, will help their members protect lives and property in the Narooma area.
Youth Exchange Program Narooma Lions Club was pleased to participate in the Youth Exchange Program, and hosted young people from overseas as part of a cultural exchange program.
Youth of the Year Award We also supported the Youth of the Year Award, to provide young people with the opportunity for self development through public speaking and other development programs. For more information about the Narooma Lions 2007 Youth of the Year Award, please click here.
Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club Over the past seventeen years, the Narooma Surf Lifesaving rubber duckie has saved possibly hundreds of lives in the sometimes-treacherous surf conditions along the south coast.
When the Surf Lifesaving Club's boat was no longer able to provide the service needed, the Narooma Lions Club raised funds to ensure another rubber duckie could be purchased. This was launched in April and went into service immediately.
Narooma Ambulance Service Each year, Narooma Lions Club provides funds to the Narooma Ambulance Service for the purchase of essential life-saving equipment for their vehicles.
Vision Australia We support Vision Australia.
Narooma schools Narooma Lions Club helps to provide funds to the Narooma High School and the Narooma Public School for the purchase of equipment for the schools.
Lions Preschool Scholarship In 2008 Narooma Lions Club will be offering a Lions Preschool Scholarship to Narooma Preschool. This will enable a four-year-old child who would otherwise miss out on that all-important year of preschool before starting school to attend.
Nominations are currently being sought through local early childhood professionals.
Debating and Public Speaking We encourage young people to reach their full potential. Narooma Lions Club supports public speaking and debate evenings, giving young people the opportunity to speak to the community about their interests, their community and current affairs.
Narooma - Dalmeny Cycleway project During 2006, Narooma Lions Club contributed to the Narooma - Dalmeny cycleway project, a six-kilometre dedicated cycleway linking the two towns and traversing magnificent coastal scenery. When completed, we believe this will be one of the most scenic cycleways in Australia. The cycleway will also provide a facility for the fitness and health of residents.
Narooma Cemetery Pavilion Project The Narooma Lions Club has adopted the Narooma Cemetery Pavilion as its main current project. For more information about the Narooma Cemetery Pavilion Project please click here.
The Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club's rubber duckie. Previous rubber duckies that Narooma Lions has sponsored have helped save perhaps hundreds of lives along Narooma's surf beaches.
